Why we pour at 62°C

The temperature that makes the difference between a candle that frosts and one that burns clean.

There is a small ritual we keep, every single batch. The wax melts, the studio fills with the faint sweetness of soy, and we wait. We are waiting for the thermometer to settle at 62°C.

It seems precise to the point of fussiness. But pour too hot, and the fragrance oil flashes off — that first beautiful note disappears before it ever reaches you. Pour too cool, and the wax pulls away from the glass as it cures, leaving little frosted shoulders that look like winter on a window.

62°C is our compromise. It is hot enough to hold the scent. It is cool enough that the wax kisses the jar instead of shrinking from it. We have tried 58. We have tried 65. This is the temperature where the candle remembers what it is supposed to be.

So when you light one of ours, know that it was poured slowly, by hand, at a temperature we argued about for weeks. It is a small thing. We think small things are the whole point.
